We are a mixed bunch here at Aunt Bessie’s, but we treat everyone how we’d like to be treated. Here’s just a few of them, and the varied jobs they do.
James has never been beaten at Scalectrix (or so he says)
This is our Managing Director, James (although he prefers ‘team leader’). James has the important job of looking after us all and making sure the business is running smoothly. Having worked with Bessie’s for 3 years now, he says the thing he loves most about his job is making great food that, hopefully, people love. When he’s not busy being the big boss, James loves a good, long walk (albeit to the pub and back) dabbles in fitness and is partial to a good book.
Ian’s only ever eaten one Brussels sprout, and that was one too many.
This is Ian, our Process Technician. He makes sure our ovens are running smoothly and that our Yorkshire puds come out of the production line perfect every time. He’s got a keen eye for detail – if there’s anything iffy going on with the batter mix, he’ll be the first to spot it – and a flair for oven temperature control, which helps us to achieve our signature, golden baked Yorkshire.
When he’s not busy twiddling complicated dials on the oven controls, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, and is partial to an odd game on the Xbox.
Christine started learning to drive at the age of 50 and passed first time (by the skin of her teeth).
This is Christine, our lovely Packing Area Leader. Christine’s job involves training people in the factories, and making sure there are enough skilled operatives on hand for each shift. She’s worked with us for over 16 years, and says the thing she loves most about her job is working with different people and all the variety that brings.
When she’s not busy training our wonderful machine operators, Christine’s a self-confessed Facebook fanatic and an avid charity supporter; you can often find her organising various events here at Aunt Bessie’s to help raise funds for local charities.
Owen has an identical twin.
Meet Owen, our Procurement & Supply Chain Controller. His job involves sourcing all of the tasty ingredients we use in our recipes and travelling up and down the country visiting all our different suppliers. Owen’s worked with us for 8 years, and says he loves getting involved with all the great new products we launch. When he’s not hard at work, Owen is a keen Newcastle United fan, and loves travelling the world and discovering different cultures.
Donna’s petrified of spiders (or anything that has more legs than her).
Here’s the lovely Donna; our HR Officer. Donna gives advice and support to all our managers and makes sure everyone’s towing the line when it comes to company policies and procedures. Donna’s been with us for a whopping 24 years and says she loves working with the people here at Aunt Bessie’s because no two days are ever the same. In her spare time, Donna usually has her head stuck in her iPad (her words, not ours) but also enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family.
Jacky is a woman of many talents, from Yorkshire Puds to Brass band, the list goes on!
Meet Jacky, our Innovation and Compliance Director at Aunt Bessie’s. She’s also the cheekiest director of them all. Jacky supports all our New Product Development teams both here in Hull and everywhere else, and she looks after the teams who work closely with our partners to ensure that all our products are consistently of a great quality are safe and legal.
Jacky loves to cook and entertain in her spare time and thinks her love of food is what makes her so passionate about her job. Her love of a good Sancerre comes from her many travels to France, and is a must for when she’s practising her French! She’s a keen golf player, and tries to find time were she can to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is a charity close to her heart.
Jacky joined us in 1997 as NPD Manager to develop a product range for the brand, and soon had responsibility for QA and Technical. In 2008 she left us for a little while to pursue a self-owned business, but she couldn’t keep away, and after working with us for a while she came back to where she belongs in 2013.
